A hand-colored bird's-eye view map of the fortified city of Brielle (Brilium) in Holland, oriented with South (MERIDIES) at the top and North (SEPTENTRIO) at the bottom. The city is situated on an island and surrounded by a moat and thick defensive walls with multiple gates and bastions. Two prominent churches, the Maerlantsche kerck and the Groote kerck, are visible within the town walls. The surrounding landscape features fields, drainage ditches, and several smaller villages such as Swartewael and Heenvliet. Various vessels, including small fishing boats and large galleons firing cannons, are depicted in the surrounding waters of the Maas river (MAESE FLV.) and the Flackee. The map includes two ornate strapwork cartouches: one in the upper left containing a numbered legend in Dutch, and one in the lower right with a Latin inscription commemorating the city's role in the Dutch Revolt in 1572.
