FRANICKER

A hand-colored bird's-eye view map of the city of Franeker. The city is portrayed as a dense network of buildings and streets enclosed within a wide, water-filled moat. A large church with two towers, one taller than the other, sits in a central open square. Several canals bisect the city blocks, and many internal plots are filled with trees or gardens. Multiple gated bridges lead across the moat into the surrounding countryside. At the bottom center is an ornate decorative cartouche with strapwork and curled edges containing a Latin description.
