Take 1 lb. of Copper or Silver or Gold and make filings from it, and mix it with 4 lbs. of quicksilver, and place it in a good quantity of aqua vitae, in 12 parts of itself of aqua vitae. This is to say, that for 1 lb. of amalgam there should be 12 lbs. of water. Place the whole in a urinal; and let it not be dissolved so that it might be strained through a filter, because the resolution of the Body would not exit through the filter p?. Then take that earth, or the blackness which you have collected, and place it in a glass vessel and pour over it m? and cook it for 4 days; then again add water, until the earth becomes white and clear. Take 1 part of Sublimated Arsenic and 7 parts of Sublimated Quicksilver, and sublimate them together with 7 parts of pure Silver, and again sublimate the whole together until the filings are fusible at a candle and white. These sublimations being completed, incorporating everything with the prescribed water, cook and congeal it often until the medicine flows upon a plate without staining, and the plate ma? p? from the same is white; and then the medicine is perfected, of which one part converts 10 parts of Copper into true Gold, with a third part being true natural Silver.
The Stone of the art is a single thing to which nothing foreign
is introduced, which is called by many names. For it is called the herb hor while it is still discerned in its specific form existing among stones of its kind; the Bull when it is disposed toward corrupting the discovered lewdness; the Cock when it conceives the Basilisk; it is seen that Animal Wine powerfully kills; the Fish, like a Sponge planted in the mud of the sea when it is dissolved into water and coagulated, all on account of the oil of burning; the Tinging Thing through the tincture which gives it completion. Water, however, is between the borders; the Wine extracted by men from which all things are made, and when it is joined with its tinctures it induces the shadow of copper. And because this new triple is varied from three, it is perfected in Body, Spirit, and Soul; and the names of these three are varied. For the Body is named earth, copper, lead, ash, magnesia, lime, mother, sewer, holy rod, king's crown, salt of our earth, path, glass, golden wood. The Spirit: fountain, water of life, sea water, rain water, alum of Yemen, scoriae, water of sulfur, spirit, Moon, gum.
The names of the Spirit are: spirit-water, blood, glue of gold, red gum, olive, cock, bull, saffron water, burnt copper, combustion.
The names of the Soul are: Rebis, foul water of the dead, purity, blood of water, blood of the stone, animal.
