mineral, when the seed of the water and the earth prevails over the seeds of the remaining elements. Through this, our fountain is made fatty, viscous, and heavy in weight.

Chapter VI.

How the Fountain of the Sages becomes Gold.

The sunbeams, penetrating even into the center of the earth, traverse with their subtle power the fatty moisture of the elements that lies hidden there. They make it living and active, sublimating it and purifying it from all excrements waste products or impurities.

2. This purified, sublimated fatty moisture of the elements, enclosed as if in a rocky chamber, is boiled continuously for about a thousand years. Finally, however, it is coagulated and shaped into an earthly sulfurous substance. It is beautiful, red, and incombustible; it is both fixed and volatile. It gives off Solar rays golden light, which humans dig up and reduce into gold through fire.
