8. Thus it is sufficiently proven in what way iron is born from our fountain, which is the father and true mother of all metals. This our fountain gives birth to, nourishes, and maintains everything.

Chapter IX.

How the Fountain of the Sages becomes Copper.

Our fountain, impregnated by the influence of the heavenly Venus, comes to the end of its putrefaction decomposition and is transformed into a dark green-blue earth. When this is strongly melted, it gives copper.

2. In this copper, some gold is always found. This is because the fatty metallic moisture is boiled through natural digestion slow heating. Some particles are found to be so highly worked that, when they are separated from the copper, they are good gold. If this green earth were not dug out before its time, it would be transformed into gold after surviving further digestion.
