Louis, by the Grace of God King of France
and Navarre, to our beloved and faithful Councilors, the
members of our Court of Parliament in Paris, and
to all our other justices and officers, Greetings. Our
dear and well-beloved Charles Sevestre, merchant bookseller
residing in our city of Paris, has humbly
represented to us that a book has been placed in his
hands entitled, The Golden Fleece, or
the Flower of Treasures, enriched with figures,
and collected from the most serious monuments
of Antiquity, by that great philosopher Salomon Trimosin, Preceptor of
Paracelsus, Translated from German into French
by L.I., which he desires to have printed
and brought to light: but he fears
that anyone other than himself, or those to whom the said
Petitioner has given the charge to do so,
would wish to interfere by having it printed,
thus frustrating him of his expenses and
labors, if he were not provided for by our
Letters suitable for this purpose. For this reason,
desiring to assist our Subjects according to the
exigency of the cases, and wishing the said Petitioner to be
compensated for his costs, outlays, pains, and
labors, we have permitted and granted, per=
=mit and grant, by these presents, to print
or cause to be printed, sell, and distribute
throughout our Kingdom the said book, without
anyone other than the said Petitioner or those having cause or
power from him being able to print or cause to be printed,
sell, and distribute it until the term of Six
years, counting from the day and date of printing,
Under penalty of confiscation and of an arbitrary fine,
and of all costs, damages, and interests
toward him. We further wish that by placing, or
causing to be placed by him at the beginning or at the
end of the said Book these presents or a brief Extract
of them, they shall be held as Signified and
come to the knowledge of all without suffering or
permitting any hindrance to be made, placed, or given to him
to the contrary. FOR SUCH IS OUR PLEASURE
that it be done, notwithstanding any letters
to the contrary. Given at Paris the eighth day
of October, the year of grace sixteen hundred twelve, and
of our Reign the third.
