The letter iod is mostly a consonant, or it is entirely silent: sometimes, however, it sounds like the vowel i, namely when at the end of a word it is immediately followed by one of the vowels a, o, u, that is, when it is preceded by holem or surec it may have been as it seems or chirec as it seems. As in פָּנַי panai. עָשׂוּי asui. גּוֹי goi. Furthermore, the patha point under a final ח precedes the breath of aspiration. As in רוּחַ ruah, not ruha. לוּחַ table luah, not luha. The Jews say the same concerning ה. Our local Hebrews, however, read it differently.
Note Final letters are never or very rarely punctuated, except for caph, which is capable of the points raphe and dages, scheua and kamez. As in אִמֶּךָ your mother. אוֹדֶךָּ I will confess to you, etc.
