A grand celestial map illustrating the geocentric Aratean system. At the center is a small terrestrial globe titled "TERRESTRIAL GLOBE," featuring a personified figure of Earth. Encircling the Earth are seven concentric rings representing the planetary orbits in the following order: the Moon, Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Each orbit contains Latin inscriptions regarding the time required for each body to complete its revolution. Surrounding the orbits is a thick ring containing the twelve signs of the Zodiac, rendered as colorful icons within circular medallions. The Zodiac ring is also filled with extensive Latin text describing the movements and positions of the stars and planets within the signs. The four corners of the plate are ornately decorated. The upper corners feature groups of putti holding aloft two pink title cartouches against a background of clouds. The lower corners depict groups of scholars, philosophers, and astronomers in a classical landscape with ruins and architecture. These figures are shown engaged in study, consulting celestial and terrestrial globes, large books, and various astronomical instruments.
