An ornamental woodcut initial 'D' depicts a human figure among scrolling vines and floral motifs.
When I was a young fellow, I came to a miner named Flocker, who was also an alchemical artist, but he kept all his affairs hidden. I could not get anything from him. He had a piece with common ♄ Saturn/Lead and a special Sulphur brimstone/the fiery principle added to it, and he fixed the ♄ so long until it became fixed and liquid, afterwards like wax. Of this prepared ♄ he then took 20 Loth half an ounce and 1 Marck half a pound of fine silver, which contained no gold, and let both flow together for half a day. Afterwards he separated such silver through casting; that became half gold. My heart grieved greatly that I should not possess the art, and I thought: I will speak to him about it, but it was refused to me by him.
