I. Sagacious Philosophy, or Great Astronomy, is divided according to the number of four kinds of Astronomies into four books: In the first book, the entire Natural Astronomy is described theoretically, that is, all works and arts that are accomplished in a natural way through the power and capacity of the Firmament, which God the Father placed therein after the first and ancient creation. Theophrastus divides these natural effects into two kinds. The first is that of those which man may practice and accomplish by his own art, skill, and knowledge, through the power, influence, and medium of the Firmament. Theophrastus describes nine of these works or arts, which he calls Membra Astronomiæ Limbs of Astronomy, or Scientias Astronomicas Astronomical Sciences, each of which again has its certain...
