By habit, the movements of the mind follow one another, as this follows that. Therefore, when one wishes to recall something, they will do this: they will search for how they might find the beginning of the movement of the soul, which that thing follows. Thus, recollections are guided most swiftly and most excellently from the beginning. For things possess the same order of relationship among themselves as do the movements of the mind. Some things can be easily comprehended by memory, namely those that consist of a certain order; others, however, with difficulty.

I shall also attempt to speak about this, which the Greeks call phantasias mental images/imagination; let us indeed call them visions, through which images of absent things are so represented to the mind that we seem to see them with our own eyes and have them present before us.
