CHAPTER XIII.

For the manifestation of these men through the Fama and Confessio has been received in many ways: since some proclaim this whole business as a worldly Phantasm and monstrous delirium. And those who judge in this way are either rude and ignorant of all things, or they are opposed to Chemistry out of envy or lack of knowledge, or they ascribe to themselves all that can be known out of excessive self-love: here a response is given to the former, or the ignorant.

A response directed to the adversaries of Chemistry on this account.

A response to the supercilious, who are puffed up with their own doctrine and love of self.

Others ascribe it all to Necromancy and superstition, to whom a response is given.
