original: "BASILICÆ CHYMICÆ"
...separate it from the dregs, and first slowly distill the Spirit of Wine original: "S. V." or Spiritus Vini; ethanol in a water bath. In turn, a powder will remain, which you shall distill with a violent and open fire into a red, transparent, and clear oil. Rectify this once more in a water bath so that it may be purified. Now take 1 part of Mercury of Antimony a purified, volatile metallic essence extracted from antimony (precipitated by oil of vitriol); pour over it 3 parts of this oil. Place it in a vial and send it to the Athanor a self-feeding furnace designed to maintain a constant temperature over long periods, and first take care that they are reduced into a single oil, and afterwards, by a continuous philosophical fire, let them be converted into a fixed and miraculous powder; this is called by artists the Fire-stone. Fire-stone. See more about the Glass of Antimony in the writings of Basil Valentine a legendary 15th-century alchemist, likely a pseudonym, whose works on antimony were foundational to early chemistry.
Regulus of Antimony by itself.
The Regulus of Antimony, or the Master of Medicines, as Basil calls it: Take one pound each of Antimony, Saltpeter potassium nitrate, and Tartar potassium bitartrate. Grind and mix them, then place a larger crucible among glowing coals until it is white-hot. Then throw in an iron spoonful of the powders and immediately cover it until the smoke ceases. Afterward, removing the lid, throw in more powder and close it, continuing in this way until the end. Finally, apply the fire of fusion intense heat for melting and move the crucible so that the Regulus the "little king"; the pure metallic heart of the ore that settles at the bottom of the crucible seeks the bottom. When the crucible has cooled, separate the Regulus from the dregs and keep it.
Or it is also made by others in this way. Take one pound of Antimony, twelve ounces of saltpeter, eight ounces of Tartar, and one handful of charcoal powder. Or take niter and tartar in the aforesaid quantity and let it detonate first; mix this powder with a handful of charcoal powder and the Antimony, and let the Regulus be made in a crucible by itself.
Golden Diaphoretic Sulphur.
Joseph Quercetanus in Restored Dogmatic Pharmacy, Chapter 442.
From the dregs of these reguli which are made in this way, the Golden Diaphoretic Sulphur a "diaphoretic" is a substance that induces sweating to expel toxins is produced in this manner: Take the dregs of the Regulus prepared as above; reduce them into a lye an alkaline solution through digestion gentle heating or boiling, and pass it while hot through filter paper. To this cooled lye, add a little distilled vinegar, and you will see the Golden Crocus original: "Crocum Auratum"; a saffron-colored precipitate gradually seek the bottom. Separate the lye by pouring it off, and collect the aforesaid Crocus, sweetened with many washings and dried separately. This will be an admirable sudorific sweat-inducer and a purifier of the blood, most fit for driving out many diseases. The dose is from half a scruple to a whole one.
Starry Regulus of Antimony.
The Starry Regulus of Mars: Take half a pound of horse-shoe nail tips (or whatever milder iron nails you wish); one pound of Antimony. Make the Mars alchemical term for Iron white-hot in a crucible, before a bellows or in an anemya, that is, a wind furnace. To this, add the ground Antimony and cover it. Giving...
