Revelation and Declaration of Basilius Valentinus

& very powerful Medicine, not only to cure the leprosy of imperfect Metals, & to render them perfect: but also to chase away all the diseases of the body of man, & to maintain him in perfect HEALTH, & you must not be astonished at the great virtues of this SPIRIT, because GOD has so ordained it, & that NATURE effects them under the good pleasure of his divine Providence. Many will believe them impossible, & will despise these great Mysteries, because they do not understand them, & they will remain in their erroneous persuasions, until they are illuminated by the will of GOD; which happens only very rarely: But all those who are learned by the labor of their studies or experiences, will confirm that everything that I have written in this TREATISE is as true, as it is true that HEAVEN is ordained for the reward of the good, & HELL for the punishment of the wicked.

I do not write all this now, as much with the Hand as with the Heart & a great affection, which carries me to describe the Nature of Metallic bodies, according to their interior & their exterior, & according even to the principles which are enclosed in the center of them, although there are many men who driven by a worldly or fantastic spirit hate & blame the search for the admirable secrets of the
