And certainly, the diminution in imperfect bodies is a scarcity of quicksilver, and not the correct thickening of the same: wherefore the completion in them will be the multiplication of quicksilver, good thickening, and permanent fixation. You should strive, therefore, when you are in the work, to overcome Mercury alone in the mixture, and if you can complete it through him alone, you will be an investigator of the most precious perfection, and you will rejoice in the sum of that perfection which overcomes the work of nature: for it will be able to be purified inwardly, to which nature does not reach; and thus consequently the work will be able to be created from it, which will overcome every nature; because there is no difference whether this is done in natural organs or in artificial ones.
