If the Egyptians had not had saltpeter in such abundance, alchemy would certainly not have been so common among them, and they would not have been able to achieve such riches, through which they could hold the yoke of the Roman Empire away from themselves, until finally Emperor Diocletian understood the cause of their power and ordered their books to be burned. As long as they knew how to use saltpeter, they had a monarch in their own land, and the Roman Empire could gain nothing against them. But as soon as the art of using it was burned for them, their monarch was also dead.
The poets have told many fables concerning the Aurea pluvia Jovis golden rain of Jupiter. If we knew how to rightfully treat the saltpeter with the Jove Jupiter/Tin down here, we would be just as capable of bringing about a golden rain.
When Jupiter becomes angry and uses his lightning, all the gods must fear him, just as everything that has life on earth is terrified, trembles, and quakes before the terrible lightning and thunder. Yet this rain that falls during such a thunderstorm is much more fruitful than any other rain, because a coloring and penetrating Spiritus spirit/essence goes out in the lightning, which colors and animates the air and the rain with fruitfulness.
