But even this same health, along with a long life, this same salt, rightly called the Miracle of the World, can confer and bestow.

I affirm that Alchemy itself, or the transmutation of lesser metals into greater ones and their transformation into Gold and Silver, are not vain dreams and opinions lacking all reason, but the truth itself, stabilized by very many experiments, the demonstration of which, with Divine aid, I am setting out to expedite this summer through public and evident experiments, and to apply for the benefit of the Fatherland, not rashly but deliberately.

Since, therefore, the Fatherland is everywhere full of iron, lead, salt, and other such mineral materials, and yet currently perceives no commodity from them; it certainly cannot be that, if such melting workshops were established everywhere, men would not be in possession of huge treasures within the course of a few years. Who knows what God is going to do, and whether it would not come to pass that it should be said of the Magnates of the Fatherland what is said in the Sacred scriptures of King Solomon: And he made the abundance of silver as common as the stones in the street, etc.
