But where would the insanity of many concerning mysteries not carry me away, who, fearing that they might appear as mere fools and wretches, strive repeatedly to make their readers and listeners fools as well. These difficulties must be overcome with labor and industry: for arduous labor, if it is valid anywhere, is valid at least here. Industry, as in all things, provides an easier way to arrive at the end concisely. I have applied labor in weaving the work, and whatever industry I could; but I could not overcome every path, yet I demonstrate that which I have trodden, and perhaps it will appear worthy for others to travel. In this little book, I have proposed to myself a chemical pertaining to alchemy compendium, and I have diligently taken care that no waste occurred, as much as my chemical alchemical exercises have permitted me thus far. So, I have chosen for myself vessels that are as convenient as possible and instruments suitable for bringing the operations to an end very quickly, which you will find described throughout. In the additions and compositions, I have applied a cautious hand, lest they either burden the active particles or diminish their quantities, which I have noted throughout. I do not entirely reject the opinions and methods of others, since other authors also deserve their praise.
