An ornate engraved title page for an architectural and engineering treatise. The central text is enclosed within a grand architectural structure. At the top, a decorative cartouche holds the main title. Flanking the central text are two large pedestals supporting standing figures dressed in early 17th-century scholarly or artisan attire, such as broad hats, ruff collars, and doublets. The figure on the left holds a long cylindrical object or measuring tool, while the figure on the right holds a tiered cylindrical device. At the bottom of the page, a rectangular panel depicts three men operating a large lever-action boring machine on a massive log or pipe. The date 1708 is divided between the two pedestals at the bottom.
