...and because I wanted nothing to be lacking in perfection, I have presented all and every piece, like the previous ones, in copper engravings, etc. And because, as Solomon writes of Wisdom, she is with those who hold her dear, there is no doubt that all other good arts are also with those who hold them in high regard and are favorable to them. Thus, I could not fail to dedicate this third part of the Theatri Machinarum concerning milling to my brother-in-law. For I am well aware how the brother-in-law, among other things, carries an excellent desire and liking for these arts.
I am further moved to this by the special friendship that the brother-in-law has shown and proven to me in many ways for some time now, so that I should not fail, not only because of the art itself but also to show my grateful disposition toward the brother-in-law, to honor him with this booklet. I very kindly and diligently pray that the brother-in-law will not take it otherwise than as well-intended, and that he will continue to maintain his inclined disposition toward me, just as I, in turn, am always found very willing, ready, and eager to show honor and friendship to the brother-in-law or to serve him.
