Take a shard from a thick pot that is very strong; then take 4 lots of ore, pound it to powder, and 1 lot of litharge, pound it small also, and mix ore and litharge together. Take the lead and put it into a crucible, and let the lead melt. When it has melted, carry a little of the ore, and then a little more, onto it until it is finally all entered. Let it then drive well. When it drives purely, let it melt further, then it becomes truly pure. If it would not, however, drive and flow well, then take the flux-powder, as mentioned above, onto it.
