sure of his facts, as much regarding the names as the editions. One sees that he is a man who cannot help but doubt, because he did not have the necessary precision in these sorts of works.
A learned Silesian, M. Frederic Rothscholtzius, gave an essay on a Hermetic Library in 1719. I searched in vain for his work without being able to find it, so I cannot mark its character; but I have drawn insights from Mercklinus and M. Manget in their catalogues of medical books, where, in imitation of Van der Linden, they have inserted many Hermetic Philosophers. The catalogues of libraries of different nations—of Italy, Germany, Holland, and France—have provided me with no less insight, especially that of HIS MAJESTY and that of M. the Marshal d'Estrées. Gratitude leads me to note with pleasure that no catalogue has been as useful to me as that of M. Hellot of the Royal Academy of Sciences, who was kind enough to communicate to me what he had collected.
