Murr, Christoph Gottlieb von · 1803

who is supposed to have been among the first Rosicrucians, that the founding of Rosicrucianism in Germany falls as early as the year 1592; however, this date is not to be safely assumed: unless he must have written his Thorough Instruction on the True Hermetic Science in the year 1622 (see this year below), and not 1635. If this latter number is valid, the origin would have to be placed in the year 1605, because he wrote (in 1635) that the Rosicrucians had led him astray with false processes for fully thirty years. In the year 1599 appeared Nicolai Bernaudi triga chymica de lapide philosophico Nicholas Bernaud's Chemical Three-Horse Chariot on the Philosopher's Stone and Quadriga aurifera Gold-bearing Four-Horse Chariot (Leiden, 8vo). Also, in the third part of the Theatrum Chemicum Chemical Theater, p. 835, there is a Latin letter from him, which Semler (Collection II, p. 38 et seq.) provides in German, and concludes that first several more secret societies—the German Rosicrucians as a new society, or German lodges—must have arisen; and the (fabulous) Societas Society of Isaacus Hollandus would thus be the mother of the assembling Rosicrucians in Germany.
