And when they are diminished in blood, they are in need of that which adheres, he will add it from foods and drinks, and from the goodness of digestion, and exercise, and joy. And these species are many, such as the sight of good things, such as good colors, and high status, and precious vessels, and those things which make one laugh and rejoice, and the rest which are similar to these, and good fumigations, and delectable odors. And when the virtues of the body are weak, they are in need of those things which comfort them from foods and drinks and species, exercises, and medicines having this noble property, and this is hidden. And when there are corrupted humidities, and raw humors aggregated in them, they are in need of those things which thin and dry up superfluous humidities, and digest raw humors, and dry the body, and with strengths from animals and plants, but the plant does one of these things, animals do two. And when the skin is wrinkled and aged, it is in need of those things which renew it and clothe it with youthful beauty and cleanliness and redness. And this is done in two ways, through the distension of the skin, and through the cleaning of the blood, and by its purification the skin is cleansed, when that which is dead is wiped away by subtle cleansing.
