We have spoken of those things which purge: now let us speak of those things which consume: namely, things consuming the above-mentioned humor in a humid complexion, such as warm electuaries medicinal pastes which comfort digestion, and powders of warm spices, such as:
Clove,
Wood of aloes,
Mace,
Galangal,
Nutmeg,
Cubebs,
Gold,
Ginger,
Saffron, etc.
But it is better that the virtue of these things be resolved in wine, and that it be taken, for it will be incorporated and transmuted through all members, and will dry up the phlegmatic humidity in all members. And properly dyatameron a medicinal digestive confection, which consumes phlegmatic superfluities wherever they are in the body, and melancholic ones, and comforts digestion and repairs the blood. But dyanthos a medicinal preparation of clove flowers consumes phlegm and melancholy in the brain, and retards grayness, and restores the sense.
