Most Serene Elector, Gracious Lord. This little treatise first came into my hands at your Electoral Highness's widely famous university and fortress, Ingolstadt, and was introduced and presented to me by Dr. Balthasar Hanrich, Regent of the Princely Georgian College there. It pleased me so much that I have revised it with great pleasure, corrected it somewhat, explained it more clearly in several places, and encouraged its new publication. I have now attached it to my 'Appendix on Medical Matter' under the title of potable gold and most universal strengthening agent, particularly for this reason: that perhaps no more copies are available in stock, yet it confirms and upholds my previously printed foundations, principles, and reasons for universal medicine. I have indeed tested the process myself at Strasbourg with Kesseler in the year 1629, and subsequently in Hesse, and found it to be correct. For some years now, I have promised in a 'Tilemannian Testament' to communicate and show the 'Stone of Fire' of Basil Valentine, as can be found recorded in his inventory printed at Regensburg. Furthermore, the name in the dedication set at the beginning matches your Electoral Highness's name to such an extent that I could easily apply and repeat everything word for word, also regarding my own person.
