and illustrious testimony of it is given to us by the History of Lutheranism, or the memory of the Blessed Luther, edited and brought to light by the most famous historiographer of our time, Mr. Christian Junker, with more than two hundred coins collected with singular care and most learnedly explained and illustrated. In the preface of this most useful book, he does not judge that it happened by chance, but as a work entirely of Providence and divine direction, leading to the honor of Luther and the Evangelical Church reformed by him; he acknowledges this very fact, that God the All-Great has deigned to spread and bestow immortality upon the memory of his faithful Minister among men and in the world even through gold and silver coins. But, besides those listed, there are still many other uses for numismatic study, which we shall consider below in Chapter 2, while also modestly showing the modes and limits to be placed upon it. I now turn myself rather to you, Excellent Mr. Respondent, and I ask, beseech, and implore you that, for that distinguished felicity of genius with which, by the grace of God, you are endowed—in the judgment not only of myself but also of the other Professors—you should also apply all the nerves of your industry to cultivating the same, and that you should live a life excellently adorned with true piety and other virtues. May the theological goal you have set for yourself with God never be allowed to fall from your heart; in a word: do this zealously and assiduously, so that you may always be found as a coin of proven and just goodness, whose heart and mind above all may have the image of the supreme Prince, JESUS Christ, who was crucified for us, so firmly and intimately impressed that it can never be erased, in that same manner which the aforementioned Blessed Scriverius (loc. cit.) requires of all Christians:
Remember that our heart must be a commemorative coin of GOD, and marked with the image of the Prince of Heaven, Christ JESUS. All our words, works, and thoughts must be an impression.
