a few, stirred by envy, because they saw that a great addition was being made to the author's praise from it, devised various materials to sprinkle some stain upon these elements; they nevertheless retained their own reputation, for which such attempts were of no value to undermine. Many of their editions bear witness to this. For after the elements of practical philosophy first saw the light in the year 1697, they were reprinted in the years 1703, 1706, 1710, 1712, 1714, 1716, 1719, 1722, 1724, 1727. Moreover, when the elements of instrumental and theoretical philosophy were added in the year 1703, they obtained the same esteem and hence various editions of them were prepared; indeed, for instrumental philosophy in the years 1705, 1709, 1712, 1714, 1716, 1719, 1721.
