The Primum mobile first moved, and consequently the nine lower spheres, is divided into five parallel circles, one oblique, and two always so transverse to themselves that they always intersect one another at equal angles. Of the parallels, the first is the equator, dividing the sphere into two equal parts, whose poles are the poles of the world. It is divided into 360 parts, which they call degrees, as are individual circles, especially the greater ones, which are the Meridian, Equator, Horizon, and Oblique orb, to each of which parts on earth correspond sixty thousand paces under the greater circles. The other two nearest circles are called tropics, and are the limits of the longest days here, but of the shortest days there. The longest days are at the beginning of the fourth month, the shortest at the beginning of the tenth.
