PREFACE.

We have recalled this work from the anvil, having been published a hundred years ago in illustrious Basel, so that we might reflect once more upon the sacred Study and Desire of our Predecessors regarding the norm and form of establishing a salutary Universal Peace and Concord. At the same time, we wish to remind the Dispensers of the Mysteries how Good, how Pleasant, and indeed how MOST BEAUTIFUL and MOST SALUTARY it is for the Christian World to compel the minds and souls of Christians—not by force and fear, nor by the rush and clamor of carnal weapons—to follow those Christs, or rather CHRIST-SERVANTS and Intermediaries who pursue a unique countenance and cultivation of Religion. Rather, we must compel them sweetly through the SPIRIT OF CHRIST, which is one of Gentleness and Humility, toward CHRIST himself, the LORD and Bridegroom of Consciences, to be embraced strongly and imitated humbly through Sound Faith and Holy Life.
