CHAPTER II.

Since the divine Goodness produces all things into Being so that they may attain not only Being, but Well-Being, and the Supreme Good (insofar as they are capable): it is absolutely necessary that, just as He gave to all Individuals, beyond the essence common to their nature, the privilege of Distinction from any other (for otherwise All things would be One and the same, if all things did not differ), it is much more necessary that in Human nature, for whose sake the others exist, God should have explained His benefit in such a way that, beyond the sensible Difference that bodies have among themselves like the rest, the same Distinction and exuberance of Graces is placed in the Souls, for whose sake bodies exist.

2. Therefore, just as He has brought down through the course of sensible Natural things, gradually until our own times, the same species and Genera of things that He Himself first created: so it is absolutely necessary that He has done so in supernatural things, and He has done so all the more intensely the greater the moment they are to the corruptible and fluxional.
