G. 2. 5. 2
2° Kst
A large, hand-painted coat of arms for the city of Augsburg is centered on the page. The heraldic shield is divided vertically, known as "per pale," with the left field in red, or gules heraldic red, and the right field in white, or argent heraldic silver/white. Both fields are decorated with a fine, dark-toned floral damask or diapered pattern. Superimposed on the center of the shield is a large green pine cone, a traditional symbol of Augsburg known as the Zirbelnuss pine cone. The pine cone rests on an ornate pedestal that features a small architectural tower or gate at its summit and a base of green and gold scrollwork, or volutes spiral ornaments, flanking a central human figure in red attire. The entire shield is outlined in heavy black ink with shaded grey borders at the top and right side to provide a three-dimensional effect.
