TITLE X.
SOUL, AND FLESH.
St. August. Conc. 1. ps. 48.
Adam signifies the soul, Eve the flesh.

The cymbal of jubilation, are soul, & flesh.
Two faces. Our soul has two faces; one toward GOD, according to reason; the other toward the flesh, according to the sensitive nature, which only grasps natural things. St. Thom. in ps. 10.

Isaac, & Rebecca. It should be known, that in that figure of Gen. 27. of the Lord's Body there were four persons, namely Isaac, & Rebecca, as male, & female, signify two natures in us, Body, & Soul. The male, which is usually more manifest, & intends more toward exterior things, signifies the exterior man, that is, the Body with its senses. The female, who resides at home, & rules the family, the interior man, that is, the Soul: which bears the care of its own salvation, & that of others. St. Thom. Work on the Sacrament of the Altar c. 7.
St. Benedict in his Rule, c. 7.
The ladder erected is our life in the world - we say the sides of this ladder are the soul, & the body.
Is. 9.
The calf, & the bear, will graze together. The calf signifies the Body, which must be sacrificed to GOD: the bear the spirit - these will graze together, namely with true food, that is, the flesh of Christ. St. Thom. ib. c. 7.
TITLE XI.
ANTI-CHRIST.
St. Isid. c. 6. in Judg.
Abimelech. By the bramble a type of Anti-Christ is deservedly signified - fire from the bramble - iniquity from Anti-Christ - Abimelech holds the type of Anti-Christ, etc.

The eagle under Nebuchadnezzar or the figure of Anti-Christ - he laments (Ezekiel).

Antiochus. In Daniel many things are said about Antiochus in the figure of Anti-Christ: whence some things are read there, which were not completed in him; but they will be fulfilled in Anti-Christ.

Horn. About Anti-Christ he shows, that he himself is a small horn, that is, one to reign for a short time.

Dan. By Dan therefore Anti-Christ is signified; because he will not arise from the freedom of grace, but rather from a handmaid, namely from greed, & ambition.

Dan signifies Anti-Christ.

Doeg, that is, Anti-Christ; who will stir up earthly things at the end of the World.

Winter. But because he said in winter, he shows the time of capturing men - Let us pray, that we may be able to flee from the age; lest we be caught by Anti-Christ, as if by winter, or the Sabbath.

Armageddon (is interpreted) mountain of thieves, or spherical, or the rising together of wicked witnesses; & it signifies Anti-Christ.

The impious. He will kill the impious, that is, Anti-Christ.

Lion. Upon the Asp, & the Basilisk, etc. ps. 90. He called the Asp death, the Basilisk sin, the Lion Anti-Christ, the Dragon the devil. David killed the Lion, & the bear; namely the bear the devil, the Lion Anti-Christ (namely David prefigured) Id. c. 9. in 1. Kings.

Darkness. Christ is light, but darkness is Anti-Christ.
TITLE XII.
APOSTLES.
Husbandman. The man, who planted the vineyard, is GOD, who founded Jerusalem - The farmers, however, to whom he lets the vineyard, are the people of Israel. The servants sent, & killed, are the prophets. The Son sent last, is Christ. But those farmers, to whom the vineyard is ordered to be transferred, signify the Apostles, or the Successors of the Apostles. St. Isid. in alleg.

Dark water. The Apostles are called so in comparison to the radiance, that is, Christ.
