WINTER PART. original: "Pars Hiemalis." To make the book portable, the Breviary was often split into four seasonal volumes; this volume contains the prayers for the winter months.

Breviary (Breviarium): A liturgical book containing the public or canonical prayers, hymns, the Psalms, and readings to be prayed daily by clergy and religious orders.

Plantin Printing House (Ex Typographia Plantiniana): One of the most famous and influential printing presses in Europe, based in Antwerp; it held the exclusive privilege for printing liturgical books for the Spanish Empire and much of the Catholic world.
