ever, and by that means at last the free authority to publish
the academic Annals was restored to me.
These reasons would surely suffice, even if there were no
other cause, for me to humbly beg of YOU to allow
these volumes to be inscribed to YOUR most glorious Name.
Yet there is a more principal reason, which is that
these Annals belong to YOU by a certain unique title;
for since YOUR Predecessor of glorious memory Maximilian III Joseph, the last of the junior branch of the House of Wittelsbach, who died in 1777,
MAXIMILIAN JOSEPH, had already most graciously
accepted their dedication, and thus made them HIS OWN;
and since YOU have succeeded to all things that
were HIS, why should I not call them YOURS, since they
have been transmitted to YOU by what is surely a hereditary
