Therefore, I set myself to the task; and indeed, within two years, I was ready to bring the first and second parts, and shortly thereafter the remaining two, into the public light, had I not been hindered until now, against my wishes, by a constant succession of new obstacles. At last, with my affairs settled through the providence of the heavens and the authority of Princes, it was permitted last year to begin the printing; and now, with the first part of the Annals and the Diplomatic Code original: "Codice diplomatico"; a collection of primary source documents, charters, and legal records, which will constitute the Fourth Part, already printed, I would dare to promise that the Second and Third Parts will surely follow in the very next year.
What I have actually achieved in this new edition of the Academic Annals original: "Annalium academicorum" I shall explain in the following chapters:
1.) I have transcribed the whole Rotmarian text original: "Textum Rotmarianum," referring to the original 16th-century history by Valentin Rotmar which seemed in any way to pertain to the history of this University; I have omitted only the poetic acclamations which, even in the judgment of others whom I consulted, would bring neither any grace—given the elegance of the muses of our current age Mederer suggests that the 16th-century poetry was too unrefined for the tastes of 1782—nor any utility to posterity.
