Johannes Trithemius, 1462 to 1516, was a celebrated German Benedictine abbot, historian, and cryptographer. Sponheim refers to the abbey in the Rhineland-Palatinate where he served as abbot before moving to Würzburg. This chronicle was published several decades after his death.
