IN this art, its principles are defined so that through the definitions they may be known, and so that a person may use them by affirming or denying in such a way that the definitions remain uninjured. And with such conditions, the intellect makes science and finds middle terms and breaks ignorance, which is its enemy. Goodness is an entity by reason of which the good acts. Magnitude is that by reason of which the duration and so on are great. Eternity, or duration, is that by reason of which goodness and magnitude endure. Power is an entity by reason of which goodness and magnitude can exist and act. Wisdom is that by reason of which the wise one understands. Will is that by reason of which goodness and magnitude are desirable. Virtue is the origin of the union of goodness, magnitude, and the other principles. Truth is that which is true about goodness, magnitude, etc. Glory is the very delight in which goodness, magnitude, etc., rest. Difference is that by reason of which goodness, etc., are unconfused or clear reasons. Concordance is that by reason of which goodness, etc., concord in one and in many. Contrariety is the mutual resistance of certain things because of diverse ends. Principle is that which relates to all things by reason of some priority. Middle is the subject in which the end flows into the principle, and the principle flows back into the end, and it is wise to the nature of both. End
