Be calm... Hush, I hear someone: it is your Aunt; the Gazette occupies her so strongly that she does not notice us.
Sophie & Honora return to their work.

Mde. WESTERN, holding the Gazette which she is reading.
AH! I am very glad to find you here; you are working? So much the better. I like for one to be occupied. Honora, leave.
She puts the Gazette in a wallet which she takes from her pocket.
HONORA, gathering the two pieces of work.
Why then this mystery?
(She exits.)

You see me, my Niece, very anxious: our affairs in the crowns of the North are taking a turn so contrary to my ideas!...
SOPHIE.

No, against all reason Denmark is taking up arms. They relied on a confederation. They had planned articles, & not at all: in truth, it is very difficult to arrange people who do not want to understand each other.
