Come, kiss then, you fool. Good. I am happy with you, Jeannette; continue to obey me. I am going to the Castle; we will return in an hour. Where is Claudine?

JEANNETTE.

She has gone out.

MARCEL.

Very well, you are mistress; take good care of the house: draw us some wine, make us a good supper, and I will love you well. Pay attention to all that; accustom yourself to the housekeeping.

SCENE IX.

JEANNETTE alone.

They have left. If Colin were to come now: I had him warned. I am alone: I have so many things to say to him. He seems to be delayed today more than usual.

ARIETTE.

When one loves well,

My lover is tender:

My heart in waiting for him
