1581 year?
Why, being small, I have dedicated the small Magnet to the Great one,
Perhaps it is a wonder to many; there was a single reason.
For the great magnet attracts the smaller magnet better,
And moves smaller pieces of iron better.
The magnet is a prince; the magnet was pulling the magnet,
Each was joined in such a Sympathetic bond.
A square woodcut illustration features a detailed compass rose. At the center is a circular medallion containing the IHS Christogram, with a cross extending from the horizontal bar of the 'H' and a heart or three nails depicted below. The compass has thirty-two points, with the primary and secondary directions labeled in Dutch: North, NNO, North-East, ONO, East, OSO, South-East, SZO, South, ZZW, South-West, WZW, West, WNW, North-West, and NNW. An outer ring provides degree markings from 0 to 90 for each quadrant. In each of the four corners of the square frame, a personified wind head cherub is shown blowing air toward the center.
Do you wish to know the heavens, the sea, the lands? Look;
Behold, the needle shows you all these things enclosed within its box.
