regions of Tartary (which we described in our China Illustrata Illustrated China), arrived in the Kingdom of the Great Mogul. Broken by the immense labors of his travels, he died in Agra, the metropolis of the Mogul Empire, in the final day of his life—a man worthy of a longer life for the integrity of his character and morals. The latter, however, his constant companion on the longest of journeys, enjoying prosperous and sound health, arrived here in Rome together with Father Henricus Roth, an unmistakable worker in the Christian expedition of the Mogul Kingdom. With the faithfulness and sincere German honesty that is proper, he communicated to me with a liberal hand the things he had brought with him that were worthy of admiration. In the following years, there succeeded Father Sebastianus d'Almeida, a Portuguese, sent here to Rome from the East Indies for the sake of business, who brought many things of those matters whose virtues and properties were sufficiently
