To die from sin

Believe, that is the right path

Matt. 7.b.14

† Through which one goes to life,
But few who find it.

The executioner has prepared his office,
That sheep stood unbound.
He has there spread God’s word,
The Christians understood that.
He spoke there many a comforting word,
To the god-fearing for comfort,
Who stood looking on about it.

He has put off his clothes

† And prayed for all.

He spoke: * God will receive my soul
And lead it into His peace.
Toward the post he stepped very lovingly,
With his arms joyfully embraced,

† He longed for his Father.

With a rope, well fast and good,
The executioner would strangle him.
The rope broke (the executioner's mind),
He fell into anxiety and care.
At the body, no fire was spared,
Than peat and wood of such a kind
To burn him to ashes.

Now hear, God’s people, very wonderfully,
The fire could not burn him,
That body remained the same,
What they applied to their hands.
God showed there His great power,

† The fire lost its right strength,
It could not burn him.

This miracle was seen openly,
The Lords [were] inflamed with anger;
He is counted God’s martyr,
They wanted to avenge it, however,
On the executioner and his lineage.
