Rev. 13:15

In Babylon’s forest,
Because they would not worship
That image nor its beast,
Nor receive its mark
On the forehead or right hand;
Thus they had to, before long,
Be very heavily banished.

Now hear you Princes of the beasts,
Who suppress God’s children here,
To which you false spirits,

The Scripture makes it clear to us,

When one wrote fifteen hundred
And fifty-four clearly,
David, very pious of life,
He was caught there;

His faith bravely confessed,
Humbly and openly.

When he was in torments,
In suffering and sorrow,
Of their Sacraments
They asked him for his meaning.
He spoke: I do not value them;
I hold to none of them,
Even if you would all at once
Kill me by your command.

A Priest, all with hesitation,
Spoke like a hypocrite:
You are lost so far;
That you now so suddenly
Confess your faith here,
One shall damage your body;
Will you not reconsider
Before time passes?

David answered to that
With words very sweet,
As Christians ought:
Acts 21:13

*I am prepared with courage
To shed my blood now;
Yes, here in this very place,
Ps. 27:1

†God is my salvation,
Who protects me now here.
