A 17th-century hand-colored engraved map titled "Ducatus Holsatiae Nova Tabula" (New Map of the Duchy of Holstein). The map depicts the region between the North Sea ("De Noordt See") and the Baltic Sea ("De Oost See"). It shows the traditional subdivisions of the duchy: Wagria, Stormaria, Holsatia proper, and Ditmarsia. Topographical features include rivers (such as the Elbe and Eider), forests, and numerous settlements marked with small architectural icons. In the upper-left corner, an inset map shows a detailed view of the coastal area around "Nortstrandt" and "Eyderstede." Two large compass roses with rhumb lines are positioned in the seas. Decorative cartouches contain a key to symbols, Latin notes, distance scales, and the publisher's imprint.
