A detailed black-and-white panoramic engraving of Copenhagen from a coastal or riverside perspective. The city is characterized by a dense array of gabled buildings and numerous tall, slender church steeples and towers. Surrounding the landward side of the city is an extensive system of star-shaped defensive fortifications, including bastions, ramparts, and moats. Several windmills are perched atop these fortifications. In the immediate foreground, a group of figures in 17th-century aristocratic or military dress are gathered on a grassy elevation. Several men are mounted on horses, while others stand on foot; one man leads a horse, and another stands with his hat in hand. In the harbor to the right, several large multi-masted sailing ships are at anchor or under sail, with one vessel firing its cannons, emitting a plume of smoke. The entire scene is enclosed in a decorative rectangular border featuring a repeating leaf-and-ribbon pattern. At the top center, the title "COPPENHAVEN" is inscribed within a large, ornate baroque cartouche decorated with scrolls, shells, and thick garlands of fruit and flowers.
