A wide-angle panoramic engraving of the city of Amsterdam as seen from the IJ harbor. The foreground is bustling with various types of 17th-century sailing vessels, from large multi-masted merchant ships to smaller boats. In the lower right foreground, a small rowboat carrying several elegantly dressed figures approaches a wooden pier where two men are standing. The background displays the dense city skyline, punctuated by numerous prominent church spires, towers, and windmills along the city walls. The sky is filled with light, wispy clouds. The entire illustration is enclosed within a decorative border of entwined geometric patterns. At the top center, the title "AMSTELDAM." is placed inside a large, ornate scrolled cartouche which is heavily draped with garlands of various fruits and leaves. In the bottom right corner of the artwork, just inside the decorative border, is a small inscription.
