An ornate, rectangular engraving provides a panoramic view of the city of Heidelberg. The city is situated on the south bank of the river Neckar, at the foot of a steep, terraced mountain. On the left side, the massive ruins of the Heidelberg Castle (Schloss Heidelberg) are visible on the hillside. In the foreground, a fortified bridge with a gate tower crosses the river. On the near bank in the lower center, three figures are depicted: a man standing with a long walking staff and two others resting on the ground. The entire scene is enclosed in a decorative frame composed of heavy fruit and leaf swags. A large, ornate cartouche at the top center contains the word "HEIDELBERG." In the far distance on the right, the horizon indicates the location of Speyer.
