A detailed seventeenth-century panoramic engraving of the city of Nuremberg. The city is depicted with its extensive fortifications, numerous church spires, and the prominent Imperial Castle (Kaiserburg) on the horizon. The entire scene is enclosed within a decorative border. At the top center, an ornate scrollwork cartouche contains the name of the city, flanked by heavy swags of fruit and flowers. In the foreground, a pastoral scene shows a family group on the left, featuring a woman nursing an infant while seated near a cow and two sheep. In the center and right, travelers and figures on horseback move across the rural landscape toward the city gates.
