A detailed, hand-colored engraved map of Germany and Central Europe (the Holy Roman Empire) from the late 17th or early 18th century. The map is oriented with North at the top. In the upper left corner, an elaborate decorative cartouche features a royal figure (likely the Holy Roman Emperor) seated on clouds, wearing a crown and ermine-lined robes, holding a scepter and a shield emblazoned with a double-headed eagle. He is surrounded by putti; two of them hold aloft a large banner with the title text. The map displays political divisions of the era, including various circles (Circuli), duchies, and principalities, colored in shades of green, yellow, pink, and orange. The topography includes major river systems (the Rhine, Danube, Elbe, Oder, and Vistula), mountain ranges, and numerous cities and towns. Sailing ships of various sizes are depicted in the "MARE GERMANICUM" (North Sea) and "MARE BALTICUM" (Baltic Sea). Coastal areas include parts of Scandinavia (Jutia, Scania), Britain (left edge), and the Low Countries. To the south, parts of Italy and the Adriatic Sea ("GOLFO DI VENETIA") are visible. A distance scale is located in the bottom right corner, titled "Milliaria Germanica Communia".
